Refunds for tainted cosmetics
CONSUMERS who bought suspect L'ocean cosmetics on Chinese mainland can receive full refunds from the stores where they bought the items, company officials said yesterday.
Asbestos was found in NUK baby talcum powder recently, and now four L'ocean products have been added to the list, the Korean Food and Drug Administration said.
Beijing Gaoliluxiang Cosmetic Co Ltd, the Korean brand's agent on Chinese mainland, said it had told its dealers to remove the four suspect products from their shelves.
They are L'ocean shading powder, blush, concealer and 30-gram loose powder.
"Customers can return those four products for refunds with a sales certificate if they bought any one of them from regular stores.
"As for those who bought from Internet shops, they have to consult the sellers themselves. This is not our business," said a Gaoliluxiang official surnamed Gao.
"We received a call from the Korean company this morning and informed all our dealers of the policy."
Asbestos can lead to cancer of the respiratory system.
An official from L'ocean's sole agent in Shanghai, in Huanlong Building, near Shanghai Railway Station, said consumers would receive full refunds even if they just returned the packaging.
