Residents To Sort Kitchen Leftovers In Trial
CITY residents taking part in a new trial will have to separate fruit and vegetable leftovers and other kitchen waste from general trash, officials said yesterday.
Kitchen waste contains a large amount of water, making it easier to compress. Processing it efficiently is crucial to the city achieving its target of the halving the amount of waste produced by 2020. The program will be trialed in 10 percent of city neighborhoods this year. It could be rolled out in 90 percent of communities by 2015.
