Restaurant closed for serving bogus mutton

A RESTAURANT in the city's Putuo District has been temporarily closed after "mutton" dishes were found to actually contain duck.

An investigation by a local TV station found sliced mutton at the Chongqing Jigongbao restaurant at Zhenping Road was duck meat and sheep fat.

The franchise eatery failed to provide any purchase vouchers and was closed immediately.

Shanghai Baiweixiang Catering Management Co Ltd is reported to have more than 400 Chongqing Jigongbao restaurants in the city.

A spokesperson for Shanghai Baiweixiang said the company provided only seasonings to franchisees.

Many city diners have become wary of eating lamb in recent weeks, after a "fake mutton" scandal, in which fox and mink meat was passed off as mutton.
