Restaurant evacuated after worker brandishes knives

AN employee brandished two knives in a restaurant after a dispute with other workers in the wee hours of today, causing police to evacuate customers and other staff members before the man surrendered, police said.

There were no reports of injuries.

Witnesses told xinmin.cn that the man had taken a customer hostage, but police said only that he had created a disturbance.

Police said the man, surnamed Lu, 27, is an employee of the restaurant on 330 Weiqingxi Road in Jinshan District.

Lu was drinking in the restaurant and after a dispute with other employees over his romantic relationship, he took out a kitchen knife and a fruit knife, according to a xinmin.cn report.

Police received a report about the incident at 2:46am and evacuated the restaurant. Lu surrendered at 5:31am.
