Restrictions on sale of fireworks
THE Fire Control Bureau said it has reduced by half the number of certificates issued to vendors who are authorized to sell fireworks in the city.
Police will strengthen scrutiny of vehicles at the entrances into the city and add roadblocks to intercept illegal fireworks. They will cooperate with business and environment inspectors and closely watch the illegal sales and setting off of fireworks till March 5.
Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau in a statement released yesterday asked the city’s various government agencies and state-owned companies to “take the lead” in banning fireworks. The bureau said last year’s efforts to control fireworks significantly helped in controlling air pollution.
