‘Rich’ swindler arrested for cheating woman of 900,000 yuan

A man has been arrested for pretending to be a rich man and swindled 900,000 yuan (US$135,605) from a woman, eastday.com reported today.

The man surnamed Yu met the woman surnamed Li on an online dating site, where he pretended to be a rich man with a Master’s degree, owning a company and two villas in Shanghai.

They started dating and living together. Yu then came up with some pretext to borrow 900,000 yuan from Li. He also mortgaged Li’s Mercedes Benz.

In February, Li found out that Yu was married with a son and a daughter and jobless.

Yu was to be sued by Minhang District prosecutors.
