River ferry stops midway
THE Shanghai Marine Bureau said yesterday it is investigating an incident in which 70 people were left temporarily stranded in the middle of the Huangpu River on Monday when the ferry they were on broke down. The boat left Nanmatou Dock in the Pudong New Area at 8:20am en route to Puxi, but midway across its engine stopped. When the vessel began to drift, the bureau sent a rescue boat to collect its human cargo and all 70 people survived the incident unhurt. The bureau said it will seek to determine who was to blame for the incident.
