Roadside vendor accidentally killed by son after squabble with urban management official

A roadside vendor accidentally killed his mother as the two scuffled with three urban management officers in Minhang District, police said on Friday.

The woman, surnamed Huang, was with her son, surnamed Ge, on Xiangyang Road on Wednesday evening when they were approached by the officers on scooters who asked them to leave.

As one of the officers was about to ride away after a fight with the vendors, which was eventually placated by passers-by, Huang prohibited him from leaving and Ge, behind the wheel of a truck, dashed towards him but knocked Huang down, police said in a statement.

Huang later died in the hospital of head injuries.

Police said investigation is still underway with both Ge and the three officers being questioned.

In China roadside vendors are often targeted by urban management teams because they mostly don't possess business permits.
