Rooftop pigeonry to be pulled down today

A PIGEONRY built illegally on the roof of a building will be demolished today after its owner signed a document to pull it down, local government official said yesterday.

One of the challenges the owner is likely to face after the demolition is how he plans to deal with the birds.

The two-story pigeonry survived demolition attempts for 12 years. Netizens accused the authorities of being lax and failing to act against the owners.

Yesterday, officials from Baoshan District convinced the owner to pull it down after he ignored their previous pleas.

The owner will have to arrange for the demolition himself.

“Rather than pull it down forcefully, convincing the owner is a better bet and won’t lead to any conflicts,” a Baoshan District government official said yesterday.
