Runners will be refunded if they can’t race
REGISTERED runners who cannot take part in the half marathon race next month will be allowed to cancel their registrations, the organizers announced yesterday.
The 2017 Shanghai International Half Marathon will be held in the Pudong New Area on April 23, featuring 15,000 runners — 3,000 more than last year — in the 21-kilometer race .
Runners can log on to the race’s official website, www.shang-ma.com, for pre-registration before 5pm on March 19. Places will be assigned through a draw and results will be announced on March 21. Those chosen to run have to complete the 160 yuan (US$23.20) payment process online within two days.
Starting this year, runners who are awarded a place but then find they are unable to run can submit a withdrawal application between March 24 and April 7. Their registration fees will be refunded and the the organizers will hold a second draw.
“The new policy was introduced to cut regulation violations including giving away or selling race quotas to other people,” said Zhou Jin, general manager of race organizer Shanghai East Best Lansheng Event Management Company.
