S Korean man gets jail term

A SOUTH Korean man has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan (US$1,500) for stealing a woman’s bank cards and using them to withdraw 38,000 yuan, Jing’an District People’s Court said yesterday.

On completion of his sentence, he will be deported, it added.

The defendant, identified only by his surname Ko, was tried earlier this year, the court said, without giving an exact date.

Ko, who was described as being in his 30s, was found guilty of stealing a woman’s handbag on November 22 outside a bar. He then used the bank cards to withdraw money from different ATMs across the city.
