Scam puts jailbird back into police hands
ONE year after leaving jail, a 67-year-old man will soon be put behind bars again.
Huang Jun has been detained for an alleged fraud involving 15,000 yuan (US$2,198), Huangpu District police said yesterday.
Officers said Huang got to know the female victim, surnamed Shi, 29, in a foot massage center where Shi worked. Huang, claiming to be a rich antique dealer, promised to give her 40,000 yuan after she said she owed 50,000 yuan, police said.
The next day, Huang brought 24,000 yuan to the woman. However, Huang asked Shi to take out about 15,000 yuan from her savings, telling her the bank she was using offered too little interest on the money.
Later that day, the suspect took away all the money when Shi went to a hair salon.
