Scare for Shanghai tourists in Malaysia
A TOUR group from Shanghai was involved in an accident when the coach they were travelling in was rear-ended by a truck in Malaysia on Monday night.
The bus was on its way from Singapore to Port Dickson in Malaysia when the accident happened, injuring 10 people.
Some of the passengers said the bus was moving too slowly — about 15-20km per hour — on the expressway.
“There was something wrong with the bus. We could not relax,” a local tourist surnamed Xu said.
After an hour’s ride, the driver stopped the bus at an emergency lane on the highway. Xu said the driver did not put on the warning indicators when the bus stopped on the highway.
Around 11:15pm, the driver and the tour guide decided to drive the bus slowly to Muar. But it veered into the high-speed lane and was hit by a container truck at the back.
“The passengers tumbled to the ground and overhead luggage fell on top of us,” Xu said.
The 16-member tour group was organized by Shanghai Zhongqing Travel Service and Lvmama, an online travel operator based in Shanghai. They left Shanghai on Sunday for a six-day tour of Singapore and Malaysia.
A woman suffered a sprain on her leg and others had scratch or bruises, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said.
Local police is investigating the incident.
Shanghai Zhongqing Travel Service said they were discussing with the tourists about the rest of the trip.
