A man who was fined 50 yuan (US$8) for riding a scooter through a red light ended up being detained for five days and fined 200 yuan for obstructing public administration, police in Jinshan District said. The man threw 500 10-cent coins to the ground and asked a police officer to pick them up.
He later said he did it out of anger after being fined several times during the crackdown on traffic offenses over the past two months.
