Search for hit-and-run rider

POLICE have issued a photograph of a moped rider they want to trace in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left an elderly woman seriously injured.

The woman, who is in her 70s, suffered bleeding inside her skull after being knocked over by a red moped on a pedestrian crossing on Tamin Road in Songjiang District on November 18.

She had just come out of her community building when she was struck by the moped about 3:30pm on the crossing that has no traffic lights.

Surveillance camera footage shows that the rider did not stop to help, instead leaving the scene immediately.

Songjiang police released a surveillance camera picture of the rider and called on him to turn himself in.

Officers also called on nearby residents who may have information to come forward.

The woman’s grandson said she struck her head on the ground. She was helped by a motorist before the emergency services arrived.

Following surgery, the senior is now reported to be in stable condition.
