Search on for wedding snapper

MORE than 130 couples in Hongkou District are facing a wedding day from hell after the photography studio they employed to shoot their prenuptial portraits closed without notice.

Bridegroom-to-be David Fang told Shanghai Daily that he and his fiancee are at their wits’ end.

“There’s no time left to reshoot the photos, so we’re desperate,” he said.

Fang said he spoke to the “iwedding studio” at the China Wedding Expo, and paid 4,580 yuan (US$745) for a photography package.

After the shots were taken, he was told they would be ready on September 6. His wedding was arranged for October 25.

However, when he contacted the studio he was told there would be a delay. That message was repeated in subsequent phone calls and on five visits to the shop. On his sixth visit, Fang found the shop deserted.

“It’s a huge blow,” he said.

But Fang and his fiancee are not the only ones left in the lurch.

In an online forum, many people complained about the studio.

“We were happily arranging our wedding, but then it turned into a disaster,” said a woman who claimed to have paid for photographs but not had any taken.

According to a frame supplier to the studio surnamed Lu, all is not lost for some couples.

He told Shanghai Daily that over the past four days, his team has been working with as many people as possible in a bid to save their big days.

“Some people already have their photos in digital format, so we’re getting them printed up and putting into frames,” he said.

Other photos were found lying around the studio.

“We’re trying to match people up with their images,” Lu said.

That task was not helped when several angry couples broke into the shop and stole bridal gowns and computers.

The district commerce bureau and consumer rights commission said they have received scores of complaints from couples in relation to the studio.

Police and officials are trying to locate the owner, they said.
