Security is beefed up for trains
PASSENGERS on trains to Beijing will face extra security checks until March 16 while the country’s top political bodies meet.
The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference begins its annual session tomorrow and the National People’s Congress meets from Sunday.
Travellers will now undergo a secondary security check of their personal belongings and ID documents before being allowed to board. Passengers are advised to arrive 30 minutes before their train is scheduled to leave.
The measures are being implemented at the Hongqiao and Shanghai railway stations. Other trains are not affected.
Shanghai railway police are also deploying more personnel during the period.
