TWO smuggled high value cars and a motorcycle seized by Shanghai customs were sold at an online auction on Friday — the first time the authority used an e-commerce platform to auction confiscated goods. The three items were auctioned at Chinese online retailer jd.com for a total of nearly 1.5 million yuan (US$217,265). The proceeds go to the national treasury.
The two cars were Mitsuoka Orochi models, and the motorcycle was a Bimota. The authority said more than 25,000 people watched the auction online and 28 people had paid a refundable deposit to bid for the goods.
