Selling taxi invoices leads to jail
A WOMAN was given one year in prison for illegally purchasing and selling about 4,000 blank taxi invoices, Xuhui District People's Court officials said yesterday.
The woman surnamed Chen works at a shopping mall in Minhang District.
She often chatted with drivers waiting for passengers outside the mall. She learned that a lot of drivers have spare blank invoices and she started to buy them. She had a friend to post an advertisement selling the blank taxi invoices online.
Police caught her selling 4,098 invoices to a man surnamed Lin for 2,500 yuan (US$393) in May. The court gave her one year in prison and fined her 20,000 yuan. Lin got 10 months in prison and a 10,000 yuan fine.
The invoices can be used by companies to show inflated costs to pay less in taxes.
