Server problems hit WeChat service
A TECHNICAL glitch with servers in Shanghai left many WeChat users unable to send messages yesterday.
Late yesterday afternoon, many people began to complain that they couldn’t send text and picture messages on WeChat, despite there being no problem with their Internet connections.
“Whatever I sent, it told me that it had failed to deliver,” a Shanghai WeChat user surnamed Xia said.
“It recovered for a while, but then malfunctioned again from time to time,” she added.
Voice messages could still be sent and WeChat’s “Moments” social networking function was also unaffected.
According to a statement released by WeChat on the Weibo microblog, the glitch occurred at 4:50pm at WeChat servers in Shanghai, leaving some users unable to log on to the service or send messages.
Just after 6:50pm, the operator said the problem had been fixed.
The instant message service developed by China’s Internet giant Tencent is reported to have 600 million users globally, including 100 million overseas.
