Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhou Bo warned for violating frugality rule

Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhou Bo was handed a severe warning today by the Party for violating the frugality rule, the Communist Party of China's top anti-graft body announced in the afternoon.

Zhou, who is also a leading Party group member of the city government, was disciplined for accepting a feast paid with government spending, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a report on its website.

As a vice mayor, the 53-year-old Zhou takes charge of the industry, information and technology, commerce, foreign investment and trade, state-owned assets management, power supply as well as work safety.

He was elected vice mayor in February 2013. Before that, he was former deputy secretary general of the city government and director of the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission.

The Communist Party of China launched a frugality campaign in December 2012.
