Shanghai Zoo unveils new animal feed center

A NEW animal feed center has been set up at the Shanghai Zoo in Changning District that makes and distributes the feed for about 400 species of animals at the zoo.
The former animal feed room was built in 1970, and struggled to handle the growing population of the zoo. Some facilities could not be used and the refrigeration capacity was not enough.
The zoo operator said the animals eat about 5,000 kilograms of beef, mutton, chicken and fish every week — and about 1,200 kilograms of vegetables.
The new center has stock areas, six freezers and other supporting facilities, thus ensuring the nutritious meals of the animals in the zoo.
