Shanghai database goes public

A government database of information about Shanghai has been opened to the public, officials said yesterday.

Covering everything from the locations of schools, public toilets and ATM machines, to the names of doctors working at the city’s hospitals and the hygiene ratings of restaurants, the resource is a one-stop shop for anyone living in the city.

Though currently available only in Chinese, the database can be found online at datashanghai.gov.cn.

It contains data from nine government departments,  with 30 more set to become involved before the end of the year, officials said.
