Shanghai names its Party spokesman
YEARS after the Shanghai Municipal Government introduced a spokesperson system, the Communist Party of China Shanghai Committee also appointed its first spokesman.
Qiu Xin, deputy director of publicity of the CPC Shanghai Committee, became the first spokesman this afternoon. He was the editor-in-chief of the Jiefang Daily before taking his publicity department post in February.
Meanwhile, spokespersons for other departments of the CPC Shanghai Committee also made their debut in front of the Chinese and foreign media.
The city government introduced the spokesperson system in 2003 to hold routine press conferences and to answer questions on topical issues from the news media.
The current municipal spokesman is Chen Qiwei, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Information Office.
