Shenglu Food executives sued over 'dyed bun scandal'
THREE senior executives of a Shanghai food company were accused of selling dyed steamed buns by prosecutors today in a follow-up to April's "dyed bun scandal."
Shanghai Shenglu Food Co Ltd was found recycling unsold buns and adding dyes and sweeteners to make them look like new. Its recycled buns had been sold in many supermarkets before the scandal was exposed on CCTV.
Steamed buns are a staple for many Chinese, especially the middle-aged and senior customers. The "dyed bun scandal" has triggered a citywide crackdown on illegal practices in the food processing industry.
After the CCTV report, Shanghai law enforcement unit raided the food company, shut down its factory, collected evidences and detained its three top executives.
