Singer wins 500,000 yuan in lawsuit
FEI Yu-ching, a famous Taiwan-based singer, won a 500,000 yuan (US$78,606) infringement lawsuit against a Beijing company that used the singer's photo to promote herbal tea products.
Jing'an District People's Court also ordered Beijing Warner Sun Technology Company to apologize in the mainstream media.
The court heard Warner Sun used Fei's photo on www8.herbeby.com, which sells herbal tea products it claims can cure sore throats.
Zhang Du, Fei's lawyer, said Warner Sun refused to delete the photos of his client. Zhang argued Warner Sun had made considerable profits by using Fei's image as the singer was well-known.
The court ruled Warner Sun did not have permission to use Fei's photo on its website.
