Six-month jail sentence for drunk driver
A man caught drunk driving and possessing a fake license has been sentenced to six months behind bars for dangerous driving and using a false identity document.
At the time of the offense, he was on probation after an alcohol-impaired driving crash case, Putuo District People’s Court said yesterday.
The driver surnamed Li, 31, is the first person in Shanghai to be charged with using a fake identity document after the crime was added to the amended Criminal Law in November 2015, the court said.
Li was caught drunk driving about 2am on July 22 after his Porsche Macan hit a Jinjiang taxi, severely damaging two cars and injuring the taxi driver.
A blood test showed the alcohol content in Li’s blood was 1.59 micrograms per milliliter, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.8mg/ml. As he had confessed and showed regret, police released him on bail after confiscating his license.
But he bought a fake license, the court said, and about 7am on November 16, he was found asleep in his car at a road intersection. A blood test showed his alcohol content reached 0.84mg/ml. And his license was found to be fake.
He was given a six-month jail term and ordered to pay a fine of 4,000 yuan (US$582).
