So hot but now cooler weather is coming
AFTER some scorching days in April - and yesterday was Shanghai’s hottest day of the year at 30.1 degrees Celsius Ñ May is in for a cool start.
According to the local weather bureau, today the city is likely to see some showers, and even thunderstorms, with the high dipping to 28 degrees.
The skies will brighten up tomorrow, but the cold air will blow in later.
The high will drop to 25 degrees tomorrow, and fall even further on Thursday and Friday, with the high on those days ranging around 22 or 23 degrees.
The low will be around 20 degrees today and tomorrow and is expected to fall a further 5 degrees on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, Shanghai choked in light smog in yesterday’s warmth. The Air Quality Index climbed at 3pm to 127, classed as lightly polluted.
Air quality will be good to lightly polluted this morning, but will improve in the afternoon when the rain arrives.
The good air quality conditions will last tomorrow and Thursday, the environmental monitoring center said.
This Saturday is lixia, a solar term that signifies the beginning of summer in the lunar calendar.
After lixia, hotter days will return — and so will more thunderstorms.
But on the bright side, it will be an excellent time for crops.
