Some local travel agencies start refund schemes for tourists booking recent trips to Berlin
TRAVEL agencies based in Shanghai or have offices in Shanghai are offering full refund for tourists who want to cancel already booked tour packages or services to Berlin following a suspected terrorist attack at a local Christmas market on Monday.
There is no report on injury of Chinese tourists in the attack so far.
Online travel operator Tuniu has 216 tourists traveling in Berlin at present.
It has promised to offer a full refund to tourists who will start a journey to the German city within a week and now want to cancel the trip due to safety concerns.
Both individual and group tourists who have paid on the travel platform for trips in Berlin for the following week are included in the refund scheme, it said.
It has also ordered tour guides who are in Berlin to avoid taking tourists to crowded areas and asked tourists to stay indoors at night.
Ctrip said it would refund tourists who had booked vehicles use services in Berlin between today and December 26 on its website on their request. It said Berlin is a popular tourist destination among Chinese, and it had sent safety messages to nearly 300 tourists who are traveling in Germany.
Online travel agency Lvmama and Tongcheng have also started emergency response, reminding tourists and tour guides in Berlin to be careful and take precautions.
