Spy camera joins diners
INTERNET Plus and big data technologies are being introduced into the supervision of food security.
The move comes as the Food and Drug Administration in Shanghai instals high-solution cameras and digital screens in restaurants to allow consumers to see conditions in kitchens.
With the cameras that work round the clock, supervisors and consumers can check sanitation conditions in kitchens, whether the chefs wear caps, and how the food has been processed, Shanghai FDA said over the weekend at a conference to improve food safety.
By clicking buttons on their screens, consumers can also trace information of food materials, such as resources, production times and expiry dates, and check the licenses of restaurants and health certificates of employees.
Meanwhile, consumers can also install an application called “shi’anxin,” or “eat securely” in Chinese, on their phone to use all the above functions and submit complaints if necessary.
The system will add a new function to collect data on oil consumption in restaurants to make sure they are using fresh cooking oil, rather than old oil used too often.
Shanghai has been trying to improve food security and public satisfaction with restaurants, which have been asked to instal transparent glass at the kitchens to allow consumers to see what is going on there.
Such facilities have been installed in several restaurants and will be promoted around the city.
