Spy cameras on public transport buses
MORE than 5,300 local buses have been equipped with a real-time surveillance camera system that will ensure safer rides and a better response to emergencies.
The 4G mobile network-based system has been running since April, Shanghai Ba-Shi Public Transportation Group, the city’s largest bus operator, said yesterday. Before, all surveillance cameras on buses were offline.
Drivers are not allowed to use mobile phones, eat or smoke when driving their buses. Now if they do so, they face being caught instantly.
Real-time surveillance will also make it easier to spot and react to any emergencies, Ba-Shi said.
The project is expected to be expanded to all 9,000 or so of the company’s buses.
