Shanghai has raised the subsidy for parents who lost their only child to 500 yuan (US$81.7) for each parent per month to help them cope with the price hike, city government said.
It came into effect from the beginning of this year.
The previous monthly subsidy was only 150 yuan.
The monthly subsidy for families whose only child was disabled was raised from 120 yuan to 400 yuan.
