Suburb gets elevated road

A new elevated road opened to public in the western suburbs yesterday to relieve congestion on the Huqingping Expressway, a major connection to downtown.
The 1.5-kilometer elevated road in Zhaoxiang Town of Qingpu District makes the Huqingping Expressway run over the Jiading-Songjiang Highway, another busy traffic route in the western outskirts, according to the Shanghai Municipal Investment Group which is in charge of the project.
The newly-open project is near the Zhaoxiang Commercial Center featuring an outlet shopping center and several popular shopping malls. A large number of vehicles from downtown drive to the area, especially during weekends and holidays, leading to severe congestion.
