Suicide bid caused blast

THE three people injured in a gas explosion on Tuesday at an apartment on Guanlong Road, Putuo District, were trying to commit suicide, police said yesterday. The victims — a man surnamed Huang, his wife and a friend surnamed Zhang — tried to end their lives by gassing themselves, but a spark caused the gas to ignite. Huang is said to have fallen into massive debt. All three are being treated in hospital.
