Summer rail peak
THE city’s railway stations are braced for a 62-day summer vacation travel rush, which runs from July 1 to August 31. About 20.3 million are forecast to travel by rail during the period. If so, this will be the first time that the number has exceeded 20 million.
From July 1, Shanghai will also for the first time have a high-speed railway service heading for Lanzhou in northwest China’s Gansu Province, thanks to the connection of Xuzhou-Lanzhou High-Speed Railway. This will cut the railway travel time between the city and the middle and western part of China. The first high-speed train service departing from Shanghai will arrive at Lanzhou in 10 hours and 38 minutes, saving nearly 12 hours on the ordinary train service.
