Supermarket flayed as mice roam over rice bags
The food quality watchdog has asked an outlet of RT Mart in Fengxian District to explain after a netizen posted pictures on the Internet showing mice on rice gunny bags sold at the supermarket.
The netizen claimed workers at the Fengxian outlet turned a blind eye to it, raising concerns about food safety.
The pictures posted on the microblog showed at least three rodents creeping and nested on rice bags, which was itself badly damaged.
“It is so disgusting,” the netizen wrote on Weibo.
Some netizens commented that they could not eat dinner after seeing the pictures.
“Who wants to buy rice at that supermarket?” wrote one netizen.
The Fengxian branch of Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said the contamination probably happened at the warehouse where the rice were stored or during the packaging process before they were sent to the supermarket.
The warehouse has been sealed off and investigation was underway.
RT Mart was not available for comments yesterday.
