Survey sees jump in staff turnover

MORE than 90 percent white collar workers in Shanghai are ready to change jobs after slower economic growth lead to disappointing salary increases last year, recruitment portal zhaopin.com said in a report yesterday.

The portal found 12.3 percent respondents saying they had already quit, while 52.2 percent said they were updating resumes and looking for a job. Also, 29.6 percent said they were considering job hopping. Only 5.8 percent said they were planning to stick to their current job, the website said after a survey covering 2,897 office workers in Shanghai.

The proportion of workers not planning to change jobs dropped significantly from last spring’s nearly 30 percent.

The website attributed the more intensive job hopping activities to slower salary growth as the economic cool-down held back annual salary increase from two-digit two years ago to between 6 and 8 percent last year.

It found salary and company’s outlook were the two greatest concerns for those considering job hopping.

The Shanghai data is consistent with the website’s national survey which found 6.1 percent of the total 12,228 respondents said they are not considering changing jobs.
