Suspect e-bike thieves detained
FOUR suspects have been detained for stealing e-bike batteries, police said.
Investigation started early last month when police in Beicai town, Pudong, discovered a suspicious minivan with smeared windows parked near the crossroads of Xizhong Road and Luke Road. A man wearing a food delivery uniform was spotted unloading e-bike batteries into the van.
The same suspect was found to be stealing the batteries from residential complexes, police added.
The suspect, a 37-year-old man surnamed Lu, was detained with his accomplice, a man surnamed Xu, at the end of last month and police said there were over 50 batteries in the vehicle.
The other two suspects, who allegedly bought the stolen batteries and then resold them, were picked up later.
