Suspect to be punished for false online post about Metro 'explosions'
SHANGHAI Metro police said they have arrested a suspect who spread rumors on the Internet saying explosive sounds were heard along Metro Line 1 on Monday morning.
A Line 1 train encountered power tripping as it proceeded between Xujiahui and Hengshan Road stations at 10:40am on Monday. After it arrived at Hengshan Road, passengers were told to get out of the train, which was removed from the operative network. Line 1's operation was restored within about 10 minutes
The suspect, surnamed Zhou, told police that after getting news of the malfunction he wanted to raise get some online attention and gain more followers, so he produced the fake information. After seeing it reposted multiple times, he got worried and deleted his post.
Metro police said Zhou would receive administrative punishment for spreading rumors related to public safety.
