Suspects ‘targeted laptops and gold’
THREE suspects have been arrested for stealing at least 1.5 million yuan (US$220,000) worth of cash and objects from 16 households in Shanghai and Jiangsu Province.
Police said yesterday that four others were under investigation.
The burglaries took place in Yangpu, Baoshan and Putuo districts in Shanghai and Kunshan City in Jiangsu from January to March, police said.
Laptops and gold accessories were the targets judging from the stolen objects that police said they had discovered in Yangpu District in a recent raid.
The burglaries were allegedly committed by a suspect surnamed Liu who broke into the apartments between 10am and 2pm by forcing open locks.
The other suspects were illegal taxi drivers who drove Liu to commit the crimes or those who had helped to sell the stolen objects, police said, adding that they had started their investigation in early March after a burglary in a residential complex on Huaide Road.
In a separate case, police in Huangpu District said they had arrested five suspects for stealing more than 1 million yuan worth of cash and objects in over 10 burglaries in Shanghai. Luxury residential complexes were said to be the suspects’ targets.
