Suzhou Creek canoe race ups its game
AN “upgraded version” of the annual canoe race on Suzhou Creek is set to be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week.
This year, the race is upgraded to a world-class competition and it has been selected by the International Canoe Federation as a station for the Canoe Marathon World Cup.
Nearly 300 athletes from more than 10 countries and regions will compete in the “short distance races” on the 3.6-kilometer-long waterway between Xizang Road Bridge and Waibaidu Bridge.
The normal and long distances canoe races will be held from October 21 to 23 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.
Over the period, residents can also have access to the canoeing activities, said Yu Biao, director of Jing’an Sports Bureau.
Rowing machines will be sent to neighborhood, campus and shopping mall, for people to use and compete. Also, some athletes will teach primary school students canoeing skills.
