Suzhou man jailed for 5-and-half years
A SUZHOU native was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for crashing his car with eight other vehicles and then trying to knife a police officer.
He was found driving under the influence of drugs, the People’s Court in Jing’an District said yesterday.
On January 5, the man, surnamed Qian, took some methamphetamine, also known as “ice,” at a KTV in Suzhou. He told the court he was hallucinating and felt that someone was trying to kill him and tried to flee in his car to Shanghai. Instead he crashed eight times while illegally trying to change lanes, overtaking other cars and running traffic lights. He caused more than 76,000 yuan of damages.
Qian’s family paid some of the damages to the victims.
A Shanghai police officer surnamed Xu saw Qian’s risky driving and tried to stop him. Qian was so frightened at the sight of the officer that he whipped out a knife and slashed his face before being overpowered.
Qian tested positive for methamphetamine and Benzedrine, the court heard.
