Swindler held for cheating girls
POLICE have detained a swindler who cheated young girls by pretending to be a model agent and an interviewer for a public relations company.
A victim, surnamed Hu, filed a report with the Hongkou District police, claiming she was cheated by someone who claimed to be an agent. She said she got to know the person on the social media platform WeChat.
The 25-year-old Hu told police that the agent, who identified himself as Sun Long, claimed that he could arrange interviews for Hu and help her become a model.
Though Hu never met Sun in person, she followed his instructions and attended an “interview” in a hotel room with a man who said he owned a public relation company and identified himself as Wang.
Hu was told to try out few dresses that Wang had brought with him. He said it was necessary before she could sign an agreement with the company.
After Hu changed and returned to the room she found Wang missing — and with him all her belongings, including 6,000 yuan (US$962.59) and an iPhone. Hu reported the matter to the police, who found out that the WeChat accounts of Sun and Wang actually belonged to the same person — someone surnamed Qiu. Police also found out that Qiu had tricked two other women of 20,000 yuan.
