TV festival closes with top awards

The 18th Shanghai Television Festival closed with a star-studded red carpet and awards ceremony last night at the Shanghai Culture Square.

A German production about how the Internet influences and tests today's family and human relationships received the top TV film honor.

The German film "Home Video" received the best TV film award. The picture depicts the trouble and confusion a boy experiences in his teen years after his self-shot compromising video is published online.

"As a young director, I am trying to tell an international language in my film," said Kilian Riedhof, the film's director. "This award shows that we have succeeded."

Austrian filmmaker Wolfgang Murnberger won as best TV film director for his comedy drama "The Kebab Incident."

In the TV series category, spy series "Cliff" won the top honor. Song Jia, who depicts a brave female spy, earned the best actress award.

Zheng Xiaolong won as best director for his popular period drama "Empresses In the Palace." Huang Haibo was honored as the best actor for his portrayal of a commander in the war drama "Indelible Designation."
