Take your car to the mountains

THE Shanghai Railway Bureau said it will provide a new car-transport service over the Spring Festival holiday for people wanting to take their vehicles to Huangshan, or Yellow Mountain, in east China’s Anhui Province.

To use the new service, customers must take their cars to Beijiao freight station on Shouyang Road, Zhabei District on February 18.

Passengers can then take the 8:30pm overnight train on February 19 from Shanghai South Railway Station, and collect their vehicles on arrival at Yellow Mountain. The return trip delivers passengers back in Shanghai on the morning of February 23, with their cars arriving later the same day.

The service costs 1,180 yuan (US$190) to 1,580 yuan per car, depending on the size, and 398 yuan per person for the sleeper train.

Groups of four can get a 50 percent discount on their rail tickets.

The bureau said it introduced the route after a similar service linking Beijing to Hangzhou proved a success.
