Taxi fuel surcharge stays, says commission
A TAXI fuel surcharge will remain despite seven consecutive drops in fuel prices since July, local transport authorities said yesterday.
This comes as several domestic airlines lowered their surcharges yesterday to reflect the fall in fuel prices.
Web users asked the city government on the weibo.com microblog whether it would follow suit and remove its 1 yuan (16 US cents) oil surcharge for each taxi journey.
But officials said the charge would stay unless prices continued to fall.
“The one-yuan fuel surcharge of taxis will be imposed as long as the fuel price is above 6.43 yuan (US$1.05) per liter,” said the Shanghai Transport Commission.
Currently, the 92-octane gasoline used by most local cabs costs 6.88 yuan a liter.
