Teenager jailed for online deception

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy, who swindled over 28,000 yuan (US$4,576.51) from three men was sentenced to 10 months in prison and ordered to pay 20,000-yuan fine, Changning District People’s Court said yesterday.

The teenager hoodwinked the three guys by pretending to be an “airline stewardess” online.

Prosecutors said the boy disguised himself as an air hostess of Singapore Airlines on several SNS websites and posted pictures of beautiful women. He targeted young men and pretended to be in love with them. After they reportedly “fell in love”, he borrowed money from them.

He put up excuses like “finding a job for younger brother,” “applying for a visa or buying overseas air tickets,” and “paying medical fees for grandfather.”
