Term upheld for attack on mother
A 3 1/2-year prison sentence administered to a local student for stabbing his mother nine times at Pudong International Airport last March 31 was affirmed yesterday by the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court.
The court said the convict, Wang Jiajing, 24, was guilty of intentional injury and was responsible for the crime despite being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Prosecutors said Wang attacked his mother, Gu Guohua, after he returned on a flight from Tokyo, where he was studying, at the Terminal 2 Station of the airport. The pair argued when Gu told Wang she could no longer afford his tuition and living cost in Japan, after which Wang pulled a knife from his bag and stabbed Gu in her head, arms, back and stomach.
