THE number of Chinese people visiting Thailand between April 16 and yesterday rose 59 percent year on year, Customs officials said. The period approximately coincided with the Thai New Year (Songkran) holiday, which is a popular time for tourists due to its traditional water-splashing activities, the officials said. The number of Chinese people visiting Thailand in the whole of last month was 116,000, they said.
