The mysterious problem of 鈥榯win cars鈥

SHANGHAI traffic police stopped a Mercedes G65 AMG yesterday morning whose driver was illegally using the same car plate and vehicle license as another car of the same model.
Zhai Guangzhi, the driver of the problematic car, said he purchased the luxury car from an agency at a price of 350,000 yuan (US$51,820) with the plate and vehicle license. Police stopped him on Nanchang Road in downtown Shanghai.
They had been tracking him for some time.
They called the driver who possesses the authentic plate and vehicle license to the scene.
The second driver remembered that his friend who rented the car from him in June told him that he lost the vehicle license so that he had to get another copy from the police.
But he had no idea how his car plate got a “twin.”
The traffic police said that for violations of this kind they have been combing through years of information on vehicles whose plates or vehicle licenses were reissued under claims that they went missing, and have found about 10 suspicious “twins” so far including the Mercedes.
